Hurricane-Rated Garage Door Cost in Miami: What Drives It

There is no single price for a hurricane-rated garage door in Miami, and any company that quotes one over the phone without measuring is guessing. The figure is set by six things, and three of them have nothing to do with the door.

Here is what actually moves the number, so you can read a quote and see whether it is honest.

1. The width of the opening

Wind load rating changes with the size of the door. A door approved up to a certain width is not approved for a wider one, which means a double door is not simply two single doors’ worth of material: the panels, the track and the reinforcement all have to meet a higher load. This is the biggest single variable and the first thing that has to be measured.

2. The model line

The same opening can take a basic steel sectional door, an insulated three-layer door, a full-view aluminium and glass door or a wood-look composite. The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive line is larger than the gap between two installers quoting the same line.

3. Glazing, if there is glass

Impact glass is the single most expensive component on a full-view door, and it is where cheap quotes usually hide a downgrade: a door “with windows” that is not the glazed configuration named in the approval. Ask for the glazing specification in writing.

4. What has to be done to the opening

This is the part homeowners do not expect. An opening that is out of square, a rotten jamb, a header that will not take the anchors, or a wall that needs reframing before the track can be fixed plumb. On older Miami homes this is common, and it is labour, not product.

5. The paperwork

In Miami-Dade the door needs a Notice of Acceptance that covers the exact model, size and configuration being installed, and the installation has to follow the method in that document. Producing it is part of the job, not a favour, and a quote that does not mention it is not a complete quote.

6. What happens to the old door

Removal, disposal and, on some properties, a crane or a lift for a heavy door or a tight driveway. Ask whether removal is included before comparing totals: it is the most common line that appears later as an extra.

Why a non-certified door is not the cheaper option

A standard door on a Miami-Dade opening is not a budget alternative, it is a non-compliant installation. It can fail final inspection, and after a storm it can give an insurer grounds to dispute a claim. The saving is imaginary.

How to compare three quotes properly

  1. Same model and same glazing configuration in all three.
  2. NOA number included, and matching the size being installed.
  3. Removal, permits, hardware and the opener interface itemised separately.

If one quote is dramatically lower, one of those three is missing.

Can a certified door reduce insurance?

It may. Florida insurers offer wind mitigation credits based on the opening protection of the house, and the documentation is what supports the claim for the credit. Ask your insurer what they need before you order, not after.

Why we do not publish a price list

Because the six factors above change the figure, and a published number would be wrong for almost every house. What we do is measure, quote itemised and keep the estimate free, so you can compare like with like.

Frequently asked questions

Is a hurricane-rated garage door required in Miami-Dade?

For openings in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, the door must be certified for that zone and the installation must follow the approved method. That means a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance matching the model, size and configuration installed.

Does the cheapest certified door do the job?

If it is certified for your opening size and installed as the approval specifies, yes, it protects the opening. What you give up is insulation, noise and finish, not safety.

How long does an installation take?

Lead time depends on the model and finish, and the installation itself is normally a day for a residential door. We confirm both after measuring, before you commit.

Do you install outside Miami-Dade?

Yes. Broward, Palm Beach and the Florida Keys are covered. Same-day service applies in Miami-Dade and Broward only.
